Frequently Asked Questions

At Inspired Windows & Conservatories time and time again we are asked the same questions regularly when a potential customer enquiries about our services, below are our most frequently asked questions that may provide the answer you need, if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us directly, we pride ourselves on the satisfaction of our customers and are always here to help.

Where are your Windows, Doors and Conservatories manufactured?

All of our PVC-U frames are manufactured in the UK using the industry-leading British Profile System, which carries all the major quality accreditations, including the British Standard Kitemark and British Board of Agreement (BBA) certification.

The product has developed considerably since then to become the market leader it is today. We specify the main Profile 22 system – the 70mm Fully Sculptured system. This system has all the leading technology and benefits of PVC-U (security features, thermal performance, maintenance free, etc) whilst maintaining the aesthetics and characteristics of traditional timber.

Our frames are fully welded, they are internally glazed, have stainless steel friction stays (hinges) and are re-enforced with galvanised steel and RCM (Recycled Composite Material) in accordance with Profile 22 recommendations. Our frames go through more internal quality checks than any other window and door that is fabricated nationally. Our fabrication methods and the resulting product has been tried and tested for over 30 years.

The security of my double glazed windows and upv-c doors is paramount. How secure are yours?

We pride ourselves on the fact that we offer the most secure windows and doors available on the market today.

“Secured by Design” is the official Police preferred security standard and it is the most stringent security specification and testing process for windows and doors in the UK. It indicates that certified products comply with the very highest standards in security. Inspired Windows & Conservatories carry this certification for our entire range of manufactured window and doors.

As standard our windows include the SAC 8 point locking shootbolt system. In addition a recent product innovation is that all casement windows are fitted with a ‘SAC ASL Bolt and Keep’ as standard. In summary this new addition combined with the 8 point locking system improves security, weather tightness, sound insulation, and hinge reliability.

Our window locking mechanism (espagnolette shootbolt system) has been tested to BSEN1670, and achieved an excellent corrosion resistance level of Grade 5 (480 hours).

The results of testing carried out in April last year in line with the principles of the British Standard 7950 ‘Windows of Enhanced Security’ Certification proved that the standard Inspired Windows & Conservatories window met with the minimum test requirements of withstanding a 3kN perpendicular load and a 1kN parallel load. The window went on to withstand a load of 6kN perpendicular to the casement and in the direction of opening with a downward pull of 1kN – double the test standard. This test confirms that the Inspired Windows & Conservatories window is the most secure window on the market today. A copy of this letter confirming the test results can be supplied upon request.

Finally our Kitemark License in respect of BS 7412:2007/PAS 24:2012 (Enhanced security performance requirements for window assemblies) was re-issued on 23rd April 2013.

As standard Secured By Design approved suited window handles are fitted, cycle tested to 50,000 cycles, and tested to corrosion resistance BSEN1670 Grade 5 (480 hours). Secured by Design is the official Police preferred security specification.

Our PVC-U doors have been tested, certificated and the resulting BSI Kitemark License (KM 501528) has been issued to Inspired Windows & Conservatories in accordance with BS 7412:2007/PAS 24:2012 – General and enhanced security performance requirements for door assemblies. This is an attack test standard that certifies that our doors are manufactured in order to withstand a series of physical tests based upon all common methods of aggravated burglary. Please refer to the enclosed certificate.

As standard our doors include the following “Secured by Design” approved product security enhancements:

  • Safeware 8+ door locking mechanism and keep, which includes single ‘top & bottom’ shootbolts as standard to single doors and double ‘top & bottom’ shootbolts as standard to double/French doors.
  • Security ‘Dog Bolts’ to the hinge side.
  • ‘Anti-Bump’ locking cylinder(s), with security cylinder guard.
  • Secured by Design approved suited door handles, cycle tested to 200,000 cycles, tested to corrosion resistance BSEN1670 Grade 5 (480 hours).

I am interested in a composite front door. What are the security features of yours?

Our composite doors have been tested, certificated and the resulting BSI Kitemark License (KM 597761) has been issued to Inspired Windows & Conservatories in accordance with BS 8529:2010/PAS 24:2012 – General and enhanced security performance requirements for composite door assemblies. This is an attack test standard that certifies that our doors are manufactured in order to withstand a series of physical tests based upon all common methods of aggravated burglary.

As standard our composite doors include the following “Secured by Design” approved product security enhancements:

  • Winkhaus High Security STV Edge Lock – 2 Hook Bolts and a Dead Lock.
  • Winkhaus Amorshield Cylinder Guard.
  • Winkhaus XR6 Security Locking Cylinder.
  • SBD approved suited door handles, cycle tested to 200,000 cycles, tested to corrosion resistance BSEN1670 Grade 5 (480 hours).

The combination of these products achieves TS007 3* rating as required by the Police Secured by Design Standard. Secured by Design is the official Police preferred security specification.

Are your products CE Marked? Why does it matter?

From 1st July 2013, it became illegal throughout the UK, to supply window and door products that do not display a CE mark. CE marking is a declaration that a product meets the standards under the Construction Products Regulation (CPR).

By purchasing your windows, doors or conservatory through Inspired Windows & Conservatories, you can be 100% confident that the product you are purchasing conforms to the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Any home improvements company who installs a non-CE marked product is breaking the law.

The installation company who originally installed the non-conforming products would need to return to your house to replace these with CE marked legal product. This would undoubtedly be of inconvenience, and potentially costly to you.

Are your fitters qualified?

In early 2014, the UK government decided that all window and door companies must verify the competence of their installers and surveyors against the Fenestration Minimum Technical Competence Standard (MTC).

In order to comply with the government requirements, staff will need to be verified against the MTC’s by June 6th 2014.

In 2014, all of Inspired Windows & Conservatories’ surveyors and fitters undertook the scheme and passed with flying colours so you can rest assured that our fitters abide by the new national required standards. If you are receiving quotes elsewhere, remember to check that they are MTC certified.
